SETTING UP
TERADEK BOLT // WIRELESS SDI
The mobile cameras use wireless devices to send their video signal.
Transmitter
The transmitter sits on top of the camera. This requires a battery, the chargers for the batteries are pictures below.
Make sure to turn transmitters on and off in between services.
Transmitter batteries will not last all day, batteries need to be swapped from soundcheck, to service.
**Antennas must be pointed STRAIGHT UP
Receivers
The receivers for the wireless are back stage attached to the truss. The receivers for the cameras are located back stage OPPOSITE side of stage of cameras.
Receivers need to be turned on and off every weekend.
Receivers automatically sync when turned on.
BATTERIES
Canon Cameras: Large Canon batteries are used in Canon cameras
Panasonic Batteries: Large Panasonic batteries are used in Panasonic (red) cameras
Sony batteries: Large Sony Batteries are used in Teradek (wireless video transmitters).
CLEAR COM SYSTEM
Clear-com is the wireless party line system used by the team to communicate. Mobile cam ops use wireless packs for this communication. These have an internal battery that last 18 hours, and only need to be charged at the end of the day by placing back in the charging dock.
Communication from camera team, producer, and video director is on Channel A. Hold button down to talk.
COMM PACKS HAVE AN 18 HOUR CHARGE, THESE NEED TO BE CHARGED AT THE END OF THE WEEKEND ONLY
CAMERA ZONES
Each of the mobile cameras is assigned to a zone on stage.
CAMERA SETTINGS
OIS IMAGE STABILITY
The mobile cams need "Image Stabilization" to combat the over shaky nature of being handheld. Make sure that the "shaky hand" icon is displayed, see pics below. To turn on and off use the OIS, also shown below.
GAIN SWITCH
There are three levels of gain. Typical gain level will be set to MEDIUM for production.
Focus / Zoom / Iris Wheels
The Focus, Zoom, and Iris wheels are located here.
Typically a mobile op would use auto focus, but when manual focus is needed, pop the switch to manual focus.
WHITE BALANCE (A VS B)
White Balance on a camera will adjust colors to make skin tone look natural depending on the light subjects are lit with. If subjects on stage look too 'cool' or 'blue' use White Balance B. If they look to 'warm' or 'orange' use White Balance A.
White Bal A or PRST: STAGE
White Bal B: BAPTISM
RULE OF THIRDS
The rule of thirds is a composition guideline that places your subject in the left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds more open. While there are other forms of composition, the rule of thirds generally leads to compelling and well-composed shots.
If you imagine dividing a photo, or even your camera’s viewfinder, into nine equal zones using horizontal and vertical lines, that forms your rule-of-thirds grid (See images below.).
Generally, use the rule of thirds so that there is MORE negative space in FRONT of the subject rather than behind.
WEEKEND MULTIVIEW
See video below for an idea of what shots all of the cameras are getting during service, specifically camera 3-6.
